Short description

In this course, you’ll combine animation, storytelling and design to create visually sophisticated title sequences and character animations. You’ll work with various techniques such as stop-motion, frame-by-frame and digital collages, and develop concepts that align with brand identities and commercial contexts. You’ll learn how to use humour, rhythm and tone in animation, and how to design characters based on archetypes and style guidelines. Through rigging, lip-sync and sound mixing, you’ll bring your animations to life. You’ll present your work professionally and justify your choices through reflection and analysis.

In these lessons, we’ll be using Adobe After Effects, Adobe Character Animator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premiere and Storyboarder.

To take this OLOD course, a good prior knowledge of Adobe After Effects, Illustrator and Photoshop is essential.

Course content

The following topics will be covered:

  • Technical analysis of common 2D animation styles.
  • Learning and applying animation techniques such as lip-sync, frame-by-frame animation, stop motion and kinetic typography.
  • Creating conceptual and artistic designs for communication and commercial purposes.
  • Integrating various media and techniques, such as photo collages, rotoscoping and video tracking, into a range of motion design projects.
  • Professionally presenting and pitching creative concepts and final products to peers and experts.
