Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this course.

Short description

In this expert class, you will explore various aspects of illustrative design. Using case studies of contemporary illustrators, you will examine a range of analogue and digital techniques (analogue printing techniques, digital drawing and painting, and an in-depth look at illustration software). In this module, you will bridge the gap between digital and analogue applications: a laptop is a tool, but the physical realisation of an image is just as important. A talent for drawing is an advantage in this module, but not a requirement. The ability to tell a story through images is central.

Within this module, there is an additional cost for a visit related to the assignment, any (test) prints, basic drawing/sketching materials, a sketchbook, etc.

Course content

The following topics will be covered:

  • Digital drawing and painting by observation on graphic drawing tablet
  • Handlettering

  • Trends in the world of digital illustration: analysing existing cases
  • Experimenting with analogue printing techniques
  • Excursion
