- You gain insights in important topics in international current affairs and geopolitics.

Learning outcomes (list)

situates international news events within a historical and geopolitical framework (1648–present)
knows key international events, dates, and trends (post-WWII and 1989–2024); briefly describes them and explains their relevance for contemporary news.
develops critical insight into international news reporting and situates it within its historical, political, economic, and societal context
independently investigates an international news topic, conflict, or country
gives a structured and clear oral explanation of an international news topic, conflict, or country
for relevant countries, you compile a complete and accurate “country template” based on reliable sources
correctly locates countries and regions on a blank world map
applies geographical knowledge in news analyses
uses English-language information sources (articles and databases) purposefully to deepen and verify international news coverage
uses AI tools in a responsible and critical way as support in acquiring and processing knowledge about international news developments

- You know and understand the history, function and importance of international political and economical organisations such as the United Nations and the European Union.

- You know and understand international current issues and concepts with their roots in history: totalitarianism versus democracy, geopolitics, climate change, ...

- You are actively interested in and following international current affairs.
