Short description

Students are introduced to basic performance skills, exploring voice, breath, the body, language and improvisation as tools for performative presence, embodied communication and artistic openness.

Course content

Students develop a foundation in performance skills based on the relationship between the body, breath, voice and presence. Through basic voice training, language-focused improvisation and performance exercises, students explore how voice and language can be made accessible within a physical performance practice.

The focus is on presence, spontaneity, performative availability and the development of a direct and personal connection between the body, emotion, language and performativity. Students work on breathing, articulation, voice use, listening skills and state work as part of a performative practice within the contemporary dance context.

In addition, the course module supports students in developing confidence in their use of performative language.
