Prerequisites

Learning outcomes (list)

1. Physiology, care and guidance
You apply the mechanism of labour in a simulated case. 
You determine fundal height, fetal presentation, and engagement of the presenting part using Leopold’s four manoeuvres in a simulated environment. 
You demonstrate hygienic care in an adult (bed bath, intimate hygiene, vulvar irrigation, care at the sink/shower) with attention to the basic principles of care: safety and hygiene and sterility, in a simulated environment. 
You demonstrate venous blood sampling in an adult according to the basic principles of care: safety and hygiene and sterility, in a simulated environment. 
You use a Doptone to register fetal heart tones in a simulated environment. 
You apply cardiotocography (CTG) according to the basic principles of care: safety and hygiene and sterility, in a simulated environment. 
You make a bed with and without a care recipient according to the taught technique in a simulated environment. 
You perform basic newborn care (diaper care, hygienic care, weighing, temperature measurement, nose, ear and eye care, and umbilical cord care) according to the basic principles of care: safety and hygiene and sterility, in a simulated environment.
You measure vital signs in accordance with the basic principles of care: safety and hygiene and sterility, in an adult within a simulated environment.
You perform a vaginal examination using POVIAS in a simulated environment. 
2. Risk detection and Risk selection
You perform a urine dipstick test and interpret the results according to current procedures and guidelines in a simulated case. 
You demonstrate correct specimen collection using the midstream method in accordance with the basic principles of care: safety and hygiene and sterility, in a simulated environment. 
You perform capillary and venous blood sampling in the newborn according to the basic principles of care: safety and hygiene and sterility, in a simulated environment. 
3. Pathology, care and guidance
You perform wound care (DAV), in combination with suture removal and/or application of Steri-Strips, according to the basic principles of care: safety and hygiene and sterility, in a simulated environment.
You demonstrate a single-use urinary catheterisation in a woman in accordance with the basic principles of care: safety and hygiene and sterility, in a simulated environment. 
You demonstrate insight into the course of surgical sutures (interrupted sutures, Donati, continuous, and intradermal) according to the guidelines provided in the theory class by performing them on a dressing.

You prepare and administer bottle feeding to a healthy newborn according to the applicable guidelines of the Agency Growing Up (Agentschap Opgroeien) in a simulated environment. 
You support breastfeeding in a physiological simulated case according to the 10 key principles for successful breastfeeding. 
9. Professionalisation
You describe your own strengths and points for improvement in Medbook regarding your practical skills and simulated exercises, following the taught principles of reflection.
You observe obstetric parameters in the postpartum woman in a simulated environment. 
You appropriately give and receive feedback during practical skills training and simulation exercises at first-semester level.
You reflect on your own soft skills applied in a simulated environment.
You demonstrate a professional attitude as described by the 10 VIP criteria (reliability, keeping agreements, taking responsibility for your own learning process, dealing with feedback, taking initiative, a proactive attitude, seeking information, conveying confidence, critical self-reflection, and stress resilience), tailored to the practical classes in the first semester of the midwifery programme. 
11. Quality of care
You perform hand hygiene according to current hand hygiene guidelines in healthcare, in a simulated environment.
